The history of our club goes back to the 1950s. Some of the elite natives of Salem rented out a small building to spent their leisure time to relax and ease themselves after their hectic business hours. At that time they had to go with indoor games like cards, carom and chess. When their guests started coming and using the facilities, it nessacitated moving to a bigger building which made them to regulate themselves to sharing of costs involved to pay rent, maintenance etc.,
They wanted to name their association and formed a body of members to run the same smoothly. Thus "The Cosmopolitan Sports Club" was formed in the year 1956 and elected an executive committee to administer the smooth running of the same. In between 1956 and 1965, there was a marvelous growth in the membership and when their financial position became good enough, the club registered itself under Tamilnadu Societies Act, purchased a land with an extent of 1.5 acres ( the present premises).which was an extension area of Salem town. which has now become a place in the heart of the city. Our club which was founded in a humble way began to scale up with more and more facilities with the magnanimous sponsorship and membership entry fees. Tennis became our first outdoor game with two clay courts.
In 1967, our new building premises was constructed. From 1969 onwards we started sponsoring and conducting sports activities like Football, Hockey, Carom, Chess, Swimming, martial arts like Taekwondo etc. Apart from these activities we also started contributing to the society in various ways such as helping the poor and needy in their socio economic problems, conducting free medical camps with the help of our doctor members, financial contribution to the government during the times of natural disastrous like floods, earthquake and other calamities.
Thanks to the various managing committees from the day of inception of our club in 1956 for their continuous hard work, efforts put up and their great contribution to our club, in upgrading our club stage by stage. In accordance with the past, the present management committee also strives for further development of club. From a humble beginning, The Cosmopolitan Sports Club is very proud to have the following facilities:
